1.  $5000 Fine Sought For Christian Marriage Commissioner Who Declined Gay Couple
Also must pay own legal costs and would be liable for all court costs if he loses

By Hilary White
SASKATOON, April 19, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Canadian Christian civil marriage commissioner in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Orville Nichols, could face up to $5000 in fines for having referred a homosexual couple to a different commissioner.
Human Rights Commission lawyer Janice Gingell asked the tribunal to find that Nichols contravened the code and order him to pay $5,000 in compensation to the complainant.
The 70 year-old Mr. Nichols used a clearly religious-based conscience argument for his refusal, saying his faith guides his daily life, that he prays and reads the Bible every day. He told the Saskatchewan Human Rights Tribunal that his faith “takes first place” in his life. He said, “I couldn't sleep or live with myself if I were to perform same-sex marriages.”
The other commissioner to whom the two men were referred performed the ceremony on the same date they requested of Mr. Nichols.
Nichols has said that he will not be among those who resign their commissions over the issue and that he is willing to take the matter to court. In Canadian Human Rights Tribunal cases, the party defending against a complaint is under a large disadvantage.
While the government pays the costs of the complainant, the defendant must cover his own expenses and if the ruling goes against him, is normally charged with all the costs. Further costs are incurred if he should try to bring the matter to a legal court.
The Tribunal, which is not under standard rules of evidence or judicial procedures, has yet to render a decision, though thus far, in most decisions in cases of this kind, the outcome has favoured the homosexual activists over religious conscientious objectors.

Canadian MPs Reject Proposal to Lower Homosexual Age of Consent
By Gudrun Schultz
OTTAWA, Canada, April 19, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An attempt to force a lower age of consent for homosexual sex in Canada has failed at the committee stage, after Canadian MPs rejected two proposed amendments to a bill scheduled to come before the house within the next two weeks.
Bill C-22 was introduced by the conservative government to raise the age of consent for heterosexual sex to 16 from 14, where it currently stands as one of the lowest ages of consent in the developed world.
NDP Joe Comartin, at the request of homosexual lobby groups, proposed an amendment that would simultaneously reduce the legal age of consent for homosexual sex to 16, compatible with the age of consent for heterosexual sex. The current age of consent for anal sex is set at 18.
Homosexual activist groups, including EGALE Canada, argued that a higher consent age for anal sex was discriminatory against the homosexual community--the Canadian Federation for Sexual Health (formerly Planned Parenthood) and the Canadian AIDS Society also made presentations to the committee in support of the amendment.
Supporters of the current law warned that lowering the consent age would open the door to an increase in homosexual pedophilia. As well, the serious health risks of engaging in anal sex, considered highly dangerous sexual activity because of the increased likelihood of transmitting HIV/AIDS and other STIs, were considered a significant factor in maintaining the current law.
A second amendment would have modified the Evidence Act, effectively creating a loophole for sexual predators.
Both amendments were rejected by the Chair of the Committee, Art Hanger, who ruled the proposals out of order, reported Canadian pro-life youth movement 4MYCanada April 17. Despite challenges by some members of the committee who wanted further discussion, a majority on the committee backed Mr. Hanger’s ruling.
While amendments to Bill C-22 have been rejected, the measure has yet to be voted in as law. 4MYCanada has asked supporters to contact their MPs and urge them to vote in favour of the bill.
As well, the group is asking individuals to thank the MPs who voted against the amendments (see a partial list of participating MPs here:
http://www.4mycanada.ca/Emails/20070417.html)
“Especially write Mr. Bagnell and Mr. Lee who both voted with the government’s bill even though they were from one of the opposition parties,” urged 4MYCanada in a statement yesterday. “This takes character and they should be commended for it.”
Liberal MPs Larry Bagnell and Derek Lee voted against the amendments.

Today the groups CBCWatch and REAL Women appear before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage in Toronto, to say it's time to end the CBC's left-wing bias and to make balanced coverage part of the public broadcaster’s mandate.
"The
Broadcasting Act requires the CBC to provide balanced coverage," says John Spence of CBCWatch.  "But that's not happening. Instead the CBC is giving an inordinate amount of air time to left-wing voices. That's wrong.  Balanced coverage should be part of the CBC’s mandate.”
Gwen Landolt of REAL Women echoed those concerns.
"The CBC gives a forum to left wing and radical organizations, while denying conservative groups like ours an opportunity to have our say," says Landolt. "We are not asking the CBC to give us special treatment; we are just asking for our right to equal time."
Spence adds that studies confirm the CBC's bias.
"Members of my group have carried out quantitative analyses which indicate the CBC slants its political coverage to favour the left-side of the political spectrum. Other academic studies also bear this out."
Landolt says as long as the CBC is a public broadcaster it has a duty not to skew its political coverage.
"As a taxpayer supported entity, the CBC has an obligation to reflect the views of all Canadians - including Canadians who believe in conservative and traditional values."

Prayer Letter for April, 2007        The Life Centre           Goderich, ON

Dear Prayer Partners;

Those of you who attended our Annual General Meeting last October heard our guest speaker, Miss Sarah Buckle speak about her work with The National Campus Life Network. (NCLN)

NCLN is striving to bring  pro - life, pro - chastity groups to campuses across Canada. It is a difficult battle with much opposition and animosity. Our office has pledged financial support because we believe that these young college and university students are bombarbed with society's immoral values, which is really no values at all. I heard a quote by an American President from year's past who said,"There is no new morality, there is only moraity and im-morality." That is still true today.

I ask that you pray for our students and the difficulties they face in today's society.

Please pray also for the success of NCLN as they continue their important mission on Canadian campuses. If you feel called to support them financially you may do so through our office.

In closing I will give you an example of what our students are facing. This is an article on Guelph, ON University. Pray hard!

Canada’s Guelph University Romps Through Perversion at 29th Annual Sex Conference

By Peter J. Smith
GUELPH, Ontario, Canada, April 3, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The University of Guelph will host its 29th annual Sexuality Conference June 18-20 to train today’s missionaries of sex education to pave the way for a post-Christian tomorrow.
After a continental breakfast available to help sex educators network and get to know each other, the conference kicks off with the topic: “Sexual Rights in a Multicultural Society: How Do We Measure Up?”
During the research forum on “Women’s Reproductive and Sexual Rights: A Global and Local Perspective” attendees consider three brief research presentations followed by questions, answers and discussion, such as “The ‘Fire Slut’ Versus the ‘Dyslexbian’ – Depictions of Active Female Sexuality in Forest Fire Suppression.”
The conference will also host “Resources and Policy Briefs for and About Sex Work”, which aims to provide policies for prostitutes – sex workers – with brochures on “security, health, money management and exotic dancing.” The Sex Trade Advocacy and Research (STAR), a coalition of researchers, sex workers, and sex worker and health organizations mobilized this project to maximize the health of women who sell their bodies for money.
The Conference also delves into how to make sex education more student-driven with “Out of the Cubicle and into the Classroom: Student Driven Sexual Health Programming in Secondary Schools.” However, according to recent news reports, American students as early as 5th grade are pioneering this one, demonstrating the lessons of sex education during other classes or school gatherings without any compunction.
This year, attendees will consider that today “just say no” constitutes “an ineffective and problematic prevention approach” to sexual assault. Instead, in the “Negotiation of Sexual Consent in Adolescence and Young Adulthood”, attendees will study what sexual consent “actually looks like.”
Much attention is paid toward helping sex educators/counselors show LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual, Queer) clients and employees greater “sensitivity and inclusivity [sic]”. Polyamorists, however, do not get the short shrift as “Help! My Client is Polyamorous” teaches how to deal sensitively with polyamorist relationships. A polyamorist leads the course.
However, the gospel of this brave new world would not be complete without workshops on “Queer Family Planning” explaining the 9 week courses on creating children: Dykes Planning Tykes or Daddies & Papas 2B.
Transsexuals are not left out as “Developing a Health Advocacy Course for Trans Men Considering Parenting.” addresses such questions as “What does it mean to be a man with a womb?” and “the numerous related medical, legal, social and political challenges.”
The 29th Guelph Sexuality Conference follows an entire week dedicated to promoting post-Christian amorality with the Sexual Attitudes Reassessment Weekend (June 9-10) and the Intensive Sex Therapy Training Program (June 11-15).

Apology for Canada’s Same-sex Marriage Legislation

It is necessary to apologize to the people of the world for the difficulties caused in other countries by the legislation in Canada which permits same-sex marriages.

It is unfortunate that some foreign same-sex partners have come to Canada to participate in same-sex marriage ceremonies and subsequently applied to the courts in their own country to recognize this so-called Canadian marriage.  Canadian marriage law does not demand residency requirements and this is being used by activists to attempt to change the marriage laws in their own country.

There are many Canadians who do not, and will not, accept the marriage of same-sex partners.  Such Canadians will continue to work to restore the traditional definition of marriage defined as being between a man and a woman only.  To do so is not to discriminate against same-sex partners, since their relationships are markedly different from those of opposite-sex relationships, regardless of what the law in Canada states.

The unfortunate results of the change in the legal definition of marriage in Canada, which came about not by the will of the people, but rather through the manipulation of the vote by both the former Liberal governing party and some of the opposition parties, have now become apparent.  The insistence that children in public schools be provided with biased and inaccurate information on the homosexual issue, and the continuous attack, by way of the courts and by current provincial government policies, on those who oppose same-sex marriage are but two examples of the detrimental effects of same-sex marriage in Canada.

Canadians who do not accept the same-sex marriage legislation, and who grasp the ramifications of this legislation, both here and abroad, wish to apologize to the world by way of correspondence with the world leaders and the UN as well as other avenues, for the same-sex marriage legislation passed in Canada, and to give warning to other nations of the problems that this legislation is creating.

1.  Forcing All Hospitals To Allow Euthanasia Key Election Plank of Belgian Ruling Party

By Hilary White
BRUSSELS, April 19, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The ruling party of Belgium, the Vlaamse Liberalen en Democraten (Flemish Liberal Democrats or Open VLD), wants to force every hospital in the country to install euthanasia protocols for patients who request it.
Since 2002, Belgian law has allowed doctors to help kill patients who, during a terminal illness, express a wish to hasten their own death. Belgium was the third jurisdiction in the world after the Netherlands (April 1, 2002) and the state of Oregon (1997) to legalize active euthanasia.
The Socialist who helped draft Belgium’s euthanasia law, Senator Philippe Mahoux, gave the doctrine of total personal autonomy, a key theory in secular bioethics, as the reason for the necessity for euthanasia. He said the dying patient should be “the only judge of their quality of life and the dignity of their last moments.”
The party calls this shift away from the traditional medical ethics one of the “ethical achievements” the policy is meant to safeguard. The Open VLD, a cartel of Belgian political parties running in the 2007 elections, announced that the government must monitor all health care institutions which receive government funding to offer the “service” of death for patients.
Under the law, physicians may opt out, but the hospital must then ensure that the patient's request is carried out by another doctor.
When the law passed, Belgium's Catholic bishops tried to explain their opposition saying the total autonomy theory “is based on the idea that the value and dignity of a human being is no longer linked to the fact of his existence, but rather to his so-called 'quality of life'.”
Alex Schadenberg, executive director of Canada’s Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, responded to the announcement, asking, “How can the Belgium government ensure that the most vulnerable in society are being protected, when the ‘right to die’ stops being an exception but in fact becomes the rule of law?”
Shadenberg said the law is double-edged and not only creates pressure for a “duty to die” for the patient, but a “duty to kill” for the physician. “A physician who believes that effective alternatives to euthanasia exist and is unwilling to abandon his patients by killing them will be ignored as a religious extremist under this regime,” Schadenberg warned.
2007 is an election year in Belgium and the proposal was tabled as part of the Open VLD’s electoral platform presented on Wednesday. Since the creation of the Belgian state in 1830 Belgian politics has been dominated by a broad three-way split between Catholics, who represent a majority of the population, the Liberal Party from which the Open VLD evolved, and the Socialists.
Other parties have formed and some strongly oppose euthanasia on moral grounds including the Vlaams Belang (VB), currently the second most important party in Flanders and one of the largest parties in the country. VB also supports natural marriage and family life through tax reform and opposes same-sex marriage and adoption by homosexual partners. VB also opposes abortion except in cases of rape or for medical threats to a mother’s life and supports relaxation of the country’s strict adoption laws.

"American Idol" Charity Cash Going to Groups which Support Abortion

By John-Henry Westen
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 19, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a statement released to the media on March 9, 2007, Douglas R. Scott, Jr., president of Life Decisions International (LDI), expressed his disappointment over the decision by "American Idol" to include two pro-abortion groups among the charities that will benefit from its "Idol Gives Back" project.
"American Idol" has pushed for corporate to support its project. Corporate sponsors of the show, such as Coca-Cola and AT&T, were among the first to make a pledge to Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF) for every person who called to vote for a contestant on April 24. The Ford Motor Company also pledged to support the effort. Scholastic created a website designed for teachers and students to support the project.
On April 25, several celebrities will appear on the show to promote "Idol Gives Back." Americans were invited to call a toll-free number or go online to make a donation to CPEF, which will turn the money over to UNICEF, Save the Children, and several other groups.
"It is laudable that the people involved with 'American Idol' want to help the poor," Scott said. "But it is tragic that they would choose to do so through groups like UNICEF and Save the Children. These groups have far too much deadly baggage." Scott urged Americans who do not believe killing preborn human beings is an acceptable "solution" to poverty and other "adult-created problems" to contact the corporations that own "American Idol."
The most comprehensive list of UNICEF's anti-life moves is available on LifeSite here:

http://www.lifesite.net/waronfamily/unicef/

In the Campaign Life Coalition pamphlet featured on the site, author Winifride Prestwich wrote: "For years UNICEF spokesmen denied promoting contraception or abortion." In "UNICEF: Guilty As Charged" she said records prove that "step by step over a 30-year period UNICEF has tied itself to the population controllers and to the anti-life, anti-family attitudes of such organizations as the International Planned Parenthood Federation."
In 2001, Save the Children worked with pro-abortion groups Planned Parenthood, the Population Action Council and the pro-abortion National Audubon Society on its five-year "Planet Campaign." Funded by the rabidly pro-abortion/population control David and Lucile Packard and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations, the purpose of the campaign was to "raise awareness of the connections between international family planning and the health of children, women and the environment."
"Ask the corporate officials to take whatever steps are necessary to drop UNICEF and Save the Children from the list of charities that will be supported through the 'Idol Gives Back' project," Scott said. "Tell them you want to participate in this admirable effort but your deeply held beliefs do not allow you to do so. Pro-family people should not be left out. We want to help, too." Pro-family Americans are also urged to include a few personal lines explaining why they want corporate officials to drop UNICEF and Save the Children.

Bush, Clinton, Obama, Giuliani, etc. React to Partial Birth Abortion Ban Ruling

By John-Henry Westen
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 19, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The following are the reactions of the United States President and Presidential contenders to yesterday's 5-4 ruling by the United States Supreme Court to uphold the 2003 federal ban on partial-birth abortion.
President George W. Bush
I am pleased that the Supreme Court upheld a law that prohibits the abhorrent procedure of partial-birth abortion. Today's decision affirms that the Constitution does not stand in the way of the people's representatives enacting laws reflecting the compassion and humanity of America. The partial-birth abortion ban, which an overwhelming bipartisan majority in Congress passed and I signed into law, represents a commitment to building a culture of life in America.
The Supreme Court's decision is an affirmation of the progress we have made over the past six years in protecting human dignity and upholding the sanctity of life. We will continue to work for the day when every child is welcomed in life and protected in law.
Democrat Hilary Clinton

This decision marks a dramatic departure from four decades of Supreme Court rulings that upheld a woman's right to choose and recognized the importance of women's health. Today's decision blatantly defies the Court's recent decision in 2000 striking down a state partial-birth abortion law because of its failure to provide an exception for the health of the mother. As the Supreme Court recognized in Roe v. Wade in 1973, this issue is complex and highly personal; the rights and lives of women must be taken into account.
It is precisely this erosion of our constitutional rights that I warned against when I opposed the nominations of Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito.
Republican Rudy Giuliani

The Supreme Court reached the correct conclusion in upholding the congressional ban on partial birth abortion. I agree with it.
Republican Sam Brownback
I'm delighted that the Supreme Court is moving forward to see the expression of life in the Constitution. I hope that some day we'll see all life respected at all stages and protected in this land and around the world.
I am very pleased that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled to uphold the ban on partial birth abortions. This ban was enacted to put an end to one of the most grotesque forms of abortion, and it is completely in line with the respect for life that is at the very heart of our Constitution. This is a great step forward for our nation's citizens, born and unborn.
I applaud the Court for finding that the Constitution 'expresses respect for the dignity of human life,' and hope that this decision signals the Court's willingness to revisit and reverse Roe v. Wade.
Republican Mitt Romney
Today, our nation's highest court reaffirmed the value of life in America by upholding a ban on a practice that offends basic human decency. This decision represents a step forward in protecting the weakest and most innocent among us.
Democrat Barack Obama
I strongly disagree with today's Supreme Court ruling, which dramatically departs from previous precedents safeguarding the health of pregnant women. As Justice Ginsburg emphasized in her dissenting opinion, this ruling signals an alarming willingness on the part of the conservative majority to disregard its prior rulings respecting a woman's medical concerns and the very personal decisions between a doctor and patient.
I am extremely concerned that this ruling will embolden state legislatures to enact further measures to restrict a woman's right to choose, and that the conservative Supreme Court justices will look for other opportunities to erode Roe v. Wade, which is established federal law and a matter of equal rights for women.
Republican John McCain
Today's Supreme Court ruling is a victory for those who cherish the sanctity of life and integrity of the judiciary. The ruling ensures that an unacceptable and unjustifiable practice will not be carried out on our innocent children. It also clearly speaks to the importance of nominating and confirming strict constructionist judges who interpret the law as it is written, and do not usurp the authority of Congress and state legislatures. As we move forward, it is critically important that our party continues to stand on the side of life.
Democrat John Edwards
I could not disagree more strongly with today's Supreme Court decision. The ban upheld by the Court is an ill-considered and sweeping prohibition that does not even take account for serious threats to the health of individual women. This hard right turn is a stark reminder of why Democrats cannot afford to lose the 2008 election. Too much is at stake - starting with, as the Court made all too clear today, a woman's right to choose.

4.  Adoptive Parents of Girl Frozen as Embryo Battle Embryonic Stem Cell Research

By Gudrun Schultz
DOVER, Delaware, April 19, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A couple who adopted their two-year-old daughter as a frozen embryo left stored in a fertility clinic freezer, are now using their story to fight against legislation that would permit research using human embryos, the Dialog reported April 16.
Tim and Dawn Smith adopted their daughter Erin 11 years after she was conceived in a petri dish during in vitro fertilization proceedings. Unused by her biological parents, the child remained frozen in storage and faced likely destruction by eventual discarding.
After learning they were unable to conceive children of their own, the Smiths opted for a relatively new option for infertile couples wanting to start a family--embryo adoption. Erin was adopted as an embryo and then implanted in Dawn’s womb, enabling Dawn to become both her birth and adoptive mother.
Hearing of efforts to combat proposed legislation that would permit couples to donate leftover embryos for stem-cell research, the Smith’s offered their participation as a couple able to personalize the issue for the public. Tim Smith has appeared in radio commercials funded by A Rose and a Prayer, a group opposed to human embryonic research, speaking about his daughter as a “typical 2-year-old.”
“Some would call Erin medical waste,” he says in the commercial. “I call her my daughter.”
The Delaware Senate voted 13-7 March 29 in favour of the Delaware Regenerative Medicine Act, scheduled to go before the House shortly. Supporters for SB 5 argue that “at present, excess human embryos created during in vitro fertilization procedures are typically discarded, and thus destroyed, when embryos are no longer needed for fertility treatment.”
Smith’s radio message points out that the legislation addresses the fate of actual people already in existence. “If Delaware’s legislature passes Senate Bill 5, embryos like Erin could be killed and used for medical experiments,” he states.

N.Y. judge: Taxpayers have right to challenge recognition of Canadian same-sex "marriages"

ALBANY, N.Y., April 18, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A New York Supreme Court judge denied a bid by homosexual activists to dismiss a case questioning the state's recognition of same-sex "marriages" performed in Canada. Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) filed suit on behalf of New York taxpayers in 2006 seeking to block the state comptroller's attempts to recognize of out-of-state same-sex "marriages."
"The New York Court of Appeals has already decided that marriage is defined as one man and one woman," said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Brian W. Raum. "The legislature never intended for the term 'spouse' to include same-sex couples 'married' in Canada."
Under New York state law, taxpayers have the legal right to challenge any illegal action by a state official that expends state funds. In July 2006, another New York State Supreme Court judge ruled that same-sex couples "married" in Canada were not entitled to state insurance benefits under New York Civil Service Law.
The suit, Godfrey v. Hevesi, filed in 2006 by ADF attorneys on behalf of New York taxpayers, charges that the New York State Comptroller's office acted illegally when it decided to recognize out-of-state same-sex "marriages" for purposes of retirement benefits
"This decision is in the best interest of our families and children," Raum said. "New York officials, who answer to the taxpayers of the state, are not permitted to act illegally in order to satisfy the demands of radical groups seeking to redefine marriage."

Embrace the responsibility

It is not anyone else's job to make you happy or fulfilled. What you choose to be is what matters.

When life is not going your way, there is nothing of value to be gained by looking for someone to blame. Instead, move beyond what has already happened and get busy exploring the positive possibilities available to you.

If you experience a disappointment or even a serious setback, that is no reason to give up hope. Though life is certainly not perfect, you are completely capable of moving forward no matter what may have happened before.

Happiness will come to you when it comes from you. Success will be yours when you choose to take responsibility for making it so.

Instead of obsessing over who might have hurt you or why or how, decide to get on with life. Instead of putting your energy into resentment, put that energy into creating meaningful greatness.

Your life is yours to live. Embrace the responsibility and all that goes with it, and your days will be filled with true richness.
